Summary: Shard is a lanky young katari man with the scruffy, travel-worn air of a pair of shabby leather boots (though his own boots are in good repair). He somehow manages to appear threadbare and perpetually rumpled, despite a generally neat appearance. Though he spent his childhood in Haven, he has spent most of the past decade travelling Fanewick's wilds, and before the plague and Haven's invasion he crossed the borders between Haven and Fanewick regularly.
He often affects an attitude of lazy, confident (cocky, some might say) nonchalange, but is deeply troubled by the events of recent years. He hates to see the Wicklings and the wilds suffer... and worries endlessly for everyone back in Haven, the home he has not dared set foot in since the plague began.

A lanky, travel-work Katari man wearing simple, sturdy clothes of wool and leather. He has the ruddy, tan skin of an outdoorsman, perpetually rumpled black hair and soft, shaggy black fur on his ears and tail. He has strong retractable claws on his fingers, where a human would have nails, and the skin there darkens to ashen black. (He typically wears a thick leather two-fingered archer's glove on his right, to protect his bowstring from his claws.) Most strikingly, his eyes are the brilliant gold of birch leaves in autumn.

A terrible creature hurt my community, and I've vowed to hunt it down. What is it, and what unique trail does it leave behind?

A bull/ram/stag, twisted by the Witherwild and infected by a mutated fungi (like the fungus that turns ants into zombies) that is driving it on a mindless rampage - it leaves spores as a trail, as inert dust or mostly infecting plantlife, not other animals... or maybe not! Up to you. The community it attacked could be either some sort of connection to my Slyborne community (poachers? smugglers?) or could be an "adoptive" Wickling community.
My first kill almost killed me, too. What was it and what part of me was never the same after?

It was the Drowner-like creature we've talked about. It was a little over a decade ago (I was about 12) and I nearly drowned, along with getting clawed up pretty nastily. The physical scars have mostly faded, with the most visible being thin silvery-white claw marks along the sides of my neck (usually covered incidentally by my clothing, but not deliberately hidden). I am still terrified of water and have nightmares of drowning when stressed/scared/etc.
Possibly I also get glimpses of strange small spirit-like things out of the corner of my eye when near water - some sort of water-spirit, or the drowned, or??? (something like the kodama from Princess Mononoke) - I probably don't know exactly what they are and also probably don't exactly... mention them.
I've traveled many dangerous lands, but what is one place I refuse to go?

I could have picked something we already established - and still could, if you want - but what I came up with is: the Shoals of Shadow/the Shadowed Shoals, a stretch of western coast below high cliffs where night falls soonest and leaves last. Dangeorus reputation - rumours of???? curses/hauntings/monsters/up to you... and also it IS on the coast and I'm terrified of water. (Sea monsters? Whirlpools?)
